Troubleshooting

The ms-appinstaller protocol has been disabled

Microsoft released a security bulletin on December 28th, 2023 advising that the ms-appinstaller protocol has been disabled. This is the mechanism that allows users to install Windows apps directly from a web browser. Without this functionality, users will need to manually download and run the package bundle:

  1. Expand the "Additional Links" section on the installation page.
  2. Click the "Package Bundle" link and follow the prompts to download the installer file.
  3. Run the installer file from the location it was downloaded to.
