For the purposes of billing, a fee earner type is a category to which members belong during a given period. This determines the maximum hourly and daily rates that can be charged by members for each scale. Different fee earner types can apply to a given member during different periods; e.g. upon a lawyer's admission or when reaching a more senior position.

Note that assigning a fee earner type does not change a member's effective rate per hour; it simply limits the amount. You may receive a warning if a member's rate exceeds the maximum after changing the fee earner type.
