Subscription

From ContactsLaw Documentation

In ContactsLaw, a subscription is the top-level organisational unit that is created when a new subscriber commences using the software. It refers to both the relationship between the subscriber and CPMS, and to the totality of the data held on their behalf.

Properties

A subscription has the following properties:

  • Name of the subscription, which usually corresponds to registered business name of the subscriber.
  • One or more ContactsLaw accounts with access to the subscription.
  • Application server to which users connect.
  • URL prefix used to access the Web App.

While it is possible to relocate a subscription to a different application server, it is not possible to move individual items (such as businesses or workgroups) between different subscriptions.

Owned Items

The following items can only be created at the subscription level:

The following items can be created at the subscription level, as well as other levels:

Security

By default, permissions set for the subscription are inherited by all other items. This simplifies the task of configuring a new subscription. Setting permissions at a more specific level disables this inheritance.

Multiple Subscriptions

In cases where a particular user has access to more than one subscription (e.g. an accountant who works for several law firms, or a consultant), ContactsLaw allows concurrent access:

  • Desktop App: The New Window command allows the selection of a particular subscription/business.
  • Web App: The navigation area contains a drop-down that can be used to switch subscription/business.

Guest Access

The information in this section relates to a pre-release version of ContactsLaw and is not representative of the final product.

A subscriber may grant guest access to selected clients. This does not affect the number of users associated with the subscription.

Deletion

Subscriptions (and their associated data) become eligible for deletion once the subscriber permanently ceases using the software. It is not generally possible to delete a subscription under any other circumstances.
